Five Times President Trump has Held China Accountable
President Trump has never been afraid to stand up for the U.S., especially when China threatens American security and prosperity. Here are five ways Donald Trump has held the Chinese government accountable during his presidency:
1. Trump holds China responsible for their part in the coronavirus outbreak
President Trump has not been shy when he acknowledges the integral role China played (and continues to play) in the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump has gone so far as to allude to possible reparations by the Chinese government to offset the United States’s economic losses triggered by the pandemic, stating:
“I want our people to be able to live and live well. It wasn’t their fault that China brought in this pandemic, this plague. It’s China’s fault, if you want to know the truth. China should be paying for it, and maybe they will.”
By the way… Did you see that Missouri’s own Attorney General, Eric Schmitt, was the first AG in the country to file a legal suit against China? Read about it here.
2. Trump signs bill condemning China’s oppressive actions in Hong Kong
Donald Trump has always stood strong for freedom against tyranny, both in America and around the world. In response to China’s increasing oppression of Hong Kong, Trump signed the Hong Kong Accountability Act into law. The Hong Kong Accountability Act ends America’s preferential treatment of Hong Kong and protects Hong Kong’s autonomy. In a press conference, Trump said:
“I signed legislation and an executive order to hold China accountable for its oppressive actions against the people of Hong Kong. No administration has been tougher on China than this administration.”
3. Trump protects Chinese breaches of Americans’ privacy
Trump has identified “Tik Tok,” a popular app with strong ties to the Chinese government, as a major threat to U.S. national security. Trump is taking actionable steps to protect Americans’ private information in a way that is both effective and profitable for the United States. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained the decision on Trump’s behalf, saying:
“These Chinese software companies doing business in the United States, whether it’s TikTok or WeChat — there are countless more … are feeding data directly to the Chinese Communist Party, their national security apparatus.”
4. Trump increases support for Taiwan
President Trump has ramped up support for the island of Taiwan, even selling them arms as their tensions with China have escalated. In 2020, Trump signed the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative (TAIPEI) Act, which protects and supports Taiwan’s international relations. Stephen Moore, a former economic advisor to President Trump, commented:
“We gotta stand by Taiwan, we see what’s happening in China the way they’re sabre rattling out there in the East, it’s about time we do what Reagan did, we stand up to these bullies, we say we’re not gonna let you do this, and we’re gonna stand with our allies.”
5. Trump highlights the dangers of Communism, sighting China as a prime example, while successfully negotiating trade
President Trump has successfully maintained an economic relationship with the Chinese government and its leaders while still acknowledging the stark differences between the ways in which the two countries operate. Trump is not afraid to condemn China’s horrific Communist past while protecting freedom and Capitalism for the American people. At the beginning of 2020, Trump even went as far as to say:
“Our relationship with China has probably never been better. We went through a very rough patch, but it has never, ever been better.”
President Trump has successfully protected the U.S. from China like no other president has before. Americans are so fortunate to have a leader like Trump who refuses to let corrupt nations like China abuse their powers. Liberty Alliance will always be the first to highlight President Trump’s hard work to protect and support the American people, even when the Liberal media chooses not to.
