Conservative Champion: Peter Kinder
It may be hard to believe now, but not that long ago, Missouri was a solidly BLUE state. Men like Peter Kinder fought to change that.
This is his story.
Peter Kinder was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He attended Southeast Missouri State and the University of Missouri before receiving his law degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
One thing was clear: Kinder had a passion for serving our state.
In 1980, a young Pete Kinder managed Rep. Bill Emerson’s campaign. He would become the first Republican elected to Congress from Southeast Missouri since 1928.
Kinder wasn’t done.
After a stint as a local attorney and associate publisher of the Southeast Missourian, Kinder would make political history again.
In 1992, he ran for State Senate and defeated Democrat Betty Hearnes, the former first lady of Missouri and previous candidate for Governor.
After successful reelections, Kinder was elected President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
He was the first Republican to hold that position in over 50 years.
Peter Kinder would go on to be the first President Pro Tem. to preside over the Senate as Lieutenant Governor.
The election of 2008 was not a pretty one for Conservatives. Barack Obama ascended to the presidency and Jay Nixon was elected Governor of Missouri. Still, Peter Kinder found a way to win.
He shined a spotlight on Veterans issues, expanded tourism, and refused to back down against the Obama and Nixon administrations during the Ferguson riots.
Peter Kinder is a fighter and a winner.
He started his political career when Liberals dominated Missouri. He never wavered in his Conservative values. That’s why we are proud to recognize him as a CONSERVATIVE CHAMPION.
