Missouri DOGE: Do You Have a Company Car?
Do you have a company car?
Do you know anyone who has one?
Fewer than 5% of Americans drive one.
Still, the state of Missouri has spent $33,895,039.19 on vehicles and another $5,917,341.46 on maintenance so far in FY 2025.
We know our State Troopers need vehicles. The Department of Transportation needs vehicles, too.
But even if we exclude those departments, we’re left with over $11 million in state government spending this fiscal year alone.
Did the Department of Revenue need $453,751.90 in new vehicles this year?
Did the Department of Mental Health need $255,009.00 in new vehicles?
Why are we spending this money year after year without asking questions about where it’s going?
Most Missourians don’t have a company car.
Missouri taxpayers would be better served if we reimbursed more state staff for their miles at the federal rate.
